Adaptive Rowing

Adaptive rowing is about removing barriers to participation in the sport for individuals with learning, physical and sensory impairments.

The first adaptive and integrative rowing club was affiliated to the ARA in 1998 and there are now a number of clubs that offer, or are dedicated to, adaptive rowing. Advances in the equipment available for adaptive athletes and the ever-increasing number of accessible rowing venues, has meant that rowing is truly becoming a sport for all.

Great Britain's success at international level is also proving an inspiration. The GB adaptive team have been winning gold medals since 2004 and look to repeat these successes at the Paralympic Games at Beijing in 2008 where the sport of rowing will be included for the first time.

You can find out more about our adaptive rowing programmes by contacting the ARA's Adaptive Coach Co-ordinator or by checking our Club Finder.
