James Clarke
James was selected in the lightweight men's four for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and finished 5th.
James has represented GB at junior, U23 and senior level and is the current 2007 World Rowing Champion in the lightweight four. In 2007 he won the World Cup series in the lightweight four winning bronze, silver and gold in the three event series. In the 2008 World Cup series he raced in the lightweight four finishing 2nd, 5th and 6th.
James took up rowing at St Pauls School in 1997 and rowed for Durham University from 2003–2006 under the guidance of Wade Hall–Craggs.
In 2002 he was 8th in the men's pair in the World Junior Championships and a Henley finalist.
James was a member of the lightweight men's pair that won bronze in the World U23 Championships in 2004 and silver in 2005.
In 2006 he broke into the senior lightweight squad through an exceptional performance in the GB Rowing Senior Trials and he stroked the Olympic class four for the rest of the season. At the World Rowing Championships in Eton they became the first GB lightweight four to make the A Final for several years finishing 5th.
James is a talented musician and studied Music at Durham University.
