Paul Mattick

Paul was selected in the lightweight men's four for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and finished 5th.

Paul is the reigning World Champion in the lightweight men's four and has competed in the lightweight men’s sweep squad at the World Championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

In 2007, Paul finished 4th in the lightweight men’s single at the 2007 GB Rowing Senior Trials in Belgium.  He won bronze in the lightweight men's four at the Linz World Cup, silver at the Amsterdam World Cup and gold at the Lucerne World Cup. In the 2008 World Cup series he raced in the lightweight four finishing 2nd, 5th and 6th. 

Paul began rowing in the 2000/2001 season for his college, having previously played club rugby to a high level for Frome RC. He studied Physiology and Pharmacology at Leeds University and has completed a PhD at Oxford University.

Whilst at Oxford Paul competed in the lightweight reserve boat. He then joined Wallingford RC in 2003 to learn to scull under the eyes of Rob Dauncey and Pete Sudbury.

In 2005 he raced in the lightweight men's four at the Eton World Cup in May. He won a bronze medal in the lightweight men's pair with Daniel Harte at the Munich World Cup in June, finished 5th in the same event at the Lucerne World Cup finals and went on to win the B Final at the World Championships in Japan.

During the 2006 World Cup, he took 4th in Munich with the lightweight men's four, 5th in Poznan and 1st in Lucerne in the B final.

At the 2006 World Championships the British lightweight men's four reached the final in exciting style and took 5th place.
