Richard Chambers

Richard is the current 2007 World Rowing Champion in the lightweight four. He also won gold in the lightweight men's pair at the 2006 U23 Rowing Championships. He finished 2nd at the 2008 GB Senior Trials in Belgium. He won bronze in the lightweight four at the World Cup in Linz in June 2007, silver in the lightweight four at the World Cup in Amsterdam and gold in the lightweight four at the World Cup in Lucerne.

Richard attended Coleraine Academical Institution where he began rowing at the age of 15 under the watchful eye of Mr Bobby Platt MBE. In 2003 he moved to Oxford Brookes University and joined the U23 team in 2005, where he won silver in the men's lightweight quad.

In 2006 he moved to sweep and raced in the pair all season with Chris Bartley. They won this event at the World Cup Regatta in Poznan and became World U23 Champions in July. With this gold medal under their belt they won selection for the World Championships in Eton where they made the A final finishing 6th.

He has just finished four years of studying Construction Management at Oxford Brookes University and now trains full time with the men's lightweight squad. Richard is a Christian and attends St Ebbe church in Oxford. His younger brother Peter is also a keen rower in Coleraine.
