Richard Egington
Richard was selected in the men's eight for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and won a silver medal.
Richard won bronze in the eight at the 2007 World Championships. He came 5th in the eight at the Linz World Cup in June 2007, won a bronze in the eight at the Amsterdam World Cup and came 4th in the eight at the Lucerne World Cup. In the 2008 World Cup series he raced in the eight finishing 2nd, 3rd and 1st.
Richard learnt to row at Warrington and is a product of Leander Club's development scheme.
He made his international debut in 2003 when he raced in the coxed four at the World Rowing Championships in Milan. The crew established themselves as strong medal contenders by winning their heat and qualifying directly for the final. There they raced neck and neck with the USA but had to concede the gold medal in the last few strokes, winning a creditable silver.
In 2004 Richard endured a frustrating time with illness and injury but he returned to fitness in 2005, racing in the men's eight throughout the World Cup series and taking a bronze medal at Eton in May and a 5th place at the World Cup finals in Lucerne in July. The eight went on to perform well at the 2005 World Championships in Gifu, Japan, finishing 4th.
He was part of the British men's eight which finished 5th in the final of the 2006 World Championships at Eton.
