Sam Townsend
A former British Junior indoor rowing Champion, Sam finished 15th in the quad at the 2007 World Championships and raced in the quad through the 2007 World Cup series. He raced in the quad in the 2008 World Cup series, finishing 10th in Munich.
Sam attended Chiltern Edge School and previously played football and cricket winning the Berks and Bucks Cup (football) at the age of 16. He was recruited at Chiltern Edge to the World Class Programme which has been coached by Mark Earnshaw.
Sam was the British Junior Ergo Champion in 2003 (6.07.2) and won the U23 Ergo title in 2005 (5.56.2). He competed for GB in the men's quadruple scull at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Poznan in 2004, finishing 11th, and then switched to the men's eight in 2005, finishing 10th in the World Rowing U23 Championships in Amsterdam and 4th in the Essen International Regatta.
He is currently studying rural environmental science at Reading University where he is also the novice men's coach.
Sam is Lottery Funded through UK Sport and a product of the ARA's World Class Start Programme, sponsored by Siemens.
