Simon Fieldhouse
Simon was reserve for the Olympic sculling squad in 2004 and finished 15th in the quadruple sculls at the 2007 World Championships. During the 2007 World Cup series he raced in the quad and in Lucerne also raced in the GB eight when the bowman was injured just before the A Final.
He raced in the quad in the 2008 World Cup series, finishing 10th in Munich.
Simon rows for Molesey Boat Club and in 2002 was the GB reserve at the World Rowing Championships in Seville, after finishing 9th in the men's pair at the final World Cup regatta in Munich.
This proved more interesting than expected as at the pre–World Championship training camp Simon had to replace a sick James Cracknell and row for two days in the pair with Matthew Pinsent. At the World Championships he then subbed into the men's coxed four at an hour's notice for the first heat after Luka Grubor injured himself. In both situations Simon rose to the occasion, helping the four to win their heat and qualify directly for the final.
At the 2003 World Rowing Championships in Milan Simon raced in the quad where the crew finished 9th overall and qualified for the Athens Olympic Games. The quad's result was a major achievement for the GB men's sculling squad; Simon is well–known as a strong team player and played an important role as the accepted 'father' of the quad.
In 2004 he had a frustrating season through injury and missed out on competing in Athens, being named as reserve for the Olympic sculling squad.
Simon raced in the men's eight throughout the World Cup Series in 2005 winning a bronze medal at Eton in May and taking 5th place at the World Cup finals in Lucerne in July. The eight went on to perform well at the 2005 World Championships in Gifu, Japan, finishing 4th.
During the 2006 World Cup, he took a 9th place in Poznan and at the 2006 World Championships he was part of the GB men's coxed four which was 5th.
Simon is an accountant and is known universally as 'Monkey' in the rowing world. His other interests include motorbikes, films and cooking. Simon married his fiancé, Nicole, in September 2007.
