Sophie Hosking

Sophie won silver in the lightweight quad at the 2007 World Rowing Championships and bronze in the lightweight quad at the 2006 World Rowing Championships. In the 2008 World Cup series she raced in the lightweight double scull finishing 9th in Munich and 1st in the lightweight quadruple scull at Poznan. 

She also won silver in the lightweight single at the World U23 Championships in 2006 and bronze in the senior quad at the Eton Worlds six months later. At the Linz World Cup in June 2007 she won gold in the women’s lightweight single scull and placed 7th in the women's lightweight quad at the Amsterdam World Cup.

Sophie started rowing at the age of 14 at Kingston Grammar School afer gaining a sport scholarship. She progressed through the school winning her first international vest in the J16 GB - France match winning the eight. The following year Sophie raced in the four at the 2003 Junior Worlds winning a silver medal. In 2004 she raced in the same event in Banyoles and came 6th. In the same year they won the Schools Head and National Schools championship eight.

Sophie joined Durham University in the autumn of 2004. After a short break from the sport she returned to stroke the university first eight to 6th place at the Women's Head of the River and to win at the BUSA Championships.

She trialed as a lightweight in the 2005–2006 season. After finishing 4th at the GB Rowing Senior Trials, she was selected to race in the U23 single, winning a silver medal. She was then selected in the lightweight quad for the 2006 Eton World Championships where she won a bronze medal.

Sophie graduated in Chemistry and Physics in the summer of 2007. She is interested in most areas of sport and also enjoys listenng and playing music. Sophie is looking forward to being a full time rower in 2008. Her father was a World Champion rower in the lightweight eight in 1980. Her mother also has a keen interest in sport too and is an avid fan of AFC Wimbledon.
