Rowing joins Olympic Youth Festival

ROWING is to be part of Team GB at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January (17-21) for the first time since the event began in 2001.

2006 World junior gold medallists Tom Lucy, Lewis Beech and Nathaniel Reilly O’Donnell are amongst a squad of 20 rowers announced today by the British Olympic Association. They will be joined in the men’s four by Mohammed Sbihi – a world junior pair finalist in 2006.

Bebington Wins in Boston

Staffordshire's Anna Bebington, a world cup winner in the double scull last year, sprung a surprise at the GB Winter Assessment Trials by taking the women's title ahead of Olympic medallists, Katherine Grainger and Sarah Winckless, in Boston, Lincolnshire, today.

Great Britain's world-champion men's four will be back in action on the water this weekend in Boston, Lincolnshire - but in two halves - as they compete in pairs at the GB Winter Assessment Trials on Saturday (16 December) from 10.30am.

Campbell wins presitigious sports journalists' award

GB ROWING'S single sculler, Alan Campbell, has won an “International Newcomer of the Year” award at the 58th annual SJA (Sports Journalists' Association) Sports Awards in London.
Campbell won medals at world cup level in 2006 and reached the final of the World Championships.

“I'm delighted to receive this honour”, he said at yesterday's ceremony. “It's not often that, in rowing, we get recognition all year-round. Hopefully, I can put us in the spotlight over the next two years to Beijing and, maybe, beyond that to 2012”.

World Champions Peter Reed, Alex Partridge, Steve Williams and Andy Hodge, from Great Britain's Camelot-sponsored men's four, are all in action this weekend at the Fullers Fours Head in London as are world bronze medallists, from the Siemens-sponsored double scull, Matt Wells and Stephen Rowbotham.

They will be amongst 2483 athletes in 546 crews competing in 20 events in this popular event which takes place between Chiswick and Putney Bridges on the Thames - a distance of four and a quarter miles - on Saturday at 13.30.

World Champions line-up for GB at Canal Cup

Peter Reed and Andy Hodge will line-up for Great Britain in this week's E.ON Hanse Canal Cup on the Kiel Canal.

The duo were part of Great Britain's world champion men's four at Eton this summer and are fresh back from their first visit to the Olympic venue in Beijing.

They will be joined in the boat by Ben Smith, Alex Gregory, Marcus Bateman, Simon Fieldhouse, Tom Parker and Oliver Moore with Nick Ford as cox.

Chambers and Bartley win world places

Chris Bartley, 22, from Farndon in Cheshire, and Richard Chambers, 21, from Coleraine but now living in Oxford, have been selected for Great Britain's 2006 World Rowing Championships team.
