Tim Hooper - North West's Volunteer of the Year

Sadly Tim Hooper died soon after his nomination for Volunteer of the Year. He is greatly missed by all his friends in rowing.

Tim Hooper came into rowing through his daughters, Elizabeth and Rachel, who were both members of Northwich Rowing Club. Even from the early days he was loading trailers, driving mini buses, helping out with timing at club time trials and picking up and carrying out other odd jobs that needed doing.

Just what the doctor ordered - a Silver Medal

A Cockermouth doctor won a silver medal earlier this month rowing in a national competition.

At only 49, Nick Cowan, of Mayfauld, Eaglesfield, is classed as a veteran and came second in the single sculling at the rowing championships in Nottingham.

The GP at South Street Surgery said he is still young for rowing events.

He said: “In rowing you become a veteran after the age of 30. People up to 70 years old still regularly compete at both regional and national level.

Henley honour for the Vets

NORTHWICH Rowing Club have Henley champions.

Their success, however, did not come at the main event, rather the veterans’ competition which has followed the Royal Regatta since 1994.

The Northwich Vets D eight, who recently won their national title, too, won the title over a 1,000m course.
