Make your nomination for BBC Sports 'Unsung Hero' award

The BBC is inviting nominations for the nation's Sports Unsung Hero.

'Now in its sixth year, the award is given to a volunteer who has made a difference to their community through sport.

Fifteen local winners are chosen by each BBC English region as well as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and will be invited to attend the Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on 14 December.

Evesham Junior Head

Zac Purchase, the 2008 Olympic Lightweight Double Sculls Gold Medallist, will be giving out the prizes at the Head race on Saturday 4th October.

The competition organisers have asked entry secretaries to note that entries close at Midnight on Friday 26th September which is a change from the Saturday closing date of previous years.

Ross Juniors joy at being 'best on their day'

'J16s, Geena Watling and Emily Preece, have learned to row with Ross Rowing Club's Junior Academy. Competing in the Women's Novice Double Sculls at Ross Regatta they successfully worked through several rounds to win in their final.

The elation on their faces is clear to see and any rower who has fought for victory can
recognize the look of satisfaction and joy at being the best on their day!'

Indoor rowing at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury's sports day

Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, a member of the Birmingham Schools Rowing Association, include indoor rowing as one of their school sports day events.

Birmingham-based ARA coaches, Stuart Redden and Maddie Millichap, helped Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Technology College run indoor rowing as part of their annual sports day for all students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Birmingham Schools Inaugural Regatta

On Tuesday 8th July Edgbaston Reservoir was host to the Birmingham Schools Rowing Association’s inaugural regatta run by the ARA Team; CDO and Team Leader Jo Atkinson, HSCT Coach Liv Pembroke, CSC’s Maddie Millichap and Stuart Redden, with safety cover provided by Peter Wright.

National Schools Sports Week

Birmingham Special Schools Project

Birmingham Special Schools Project

Indoor rowing in the inner city secondary schools in Birmingham has been taking place since 2004, when the Sir Steve Redgrave Trust initially helped to fund rowing machines for 20 schools. This was soon followed by the involvement of further schools supported by generous funding from Sport England, Awards for All, Heart of Birmingham Primary Care Trust and the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) for more rowing machines, boats and professional coaches.
