Make your nomination for BBC Sports 'Unsung Hero' award

The BBC is inviting nominations for the nation's Sports Unsung Hero.

'Now in its sixth year, the award is given to a volunteer who has made a difference to their community through sport.

Fifteen local winners are chosen by each BBC English region as well as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and will be invited to attend the Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on 14 December.

'Jacky has been club secretary for a number of years and brings to the club her work skills of being very organised and very professional, which enables us to manage the club successfully with only a small number of volunteers.

Henry Allingham, the oldest man in Europe, was 112 last week. Considered to be one of only three surviving World War 1 veterans, Henry celebrated his birthday in style at Royal Air Force College in Cranwell, Lincolnshire with family, friends and many well wishers.

It was a whirlwind week for the Brighton resident who was born in London on 6th June 1896, the year that the first modern Olympic Games took place in Athens.

Christchurch RC launches boathouse project

Christchurch Rowing Club has secured some £59,400 to expand their crowded boathouse facilities, thanks to Sport England and the Amateur Rowing Association.

This grant is a share of the Community Club Programme, a government funded scheme, being managed by Sport England, specifically earmarked to develop links between the country’s leading junior clubs and their local communities, providing resources, quality coaching and safe environments for young people to enjoy an open air successful national sport.

HSCT: South East junior training camp

The London Regatta Centre played host to the South East Region’s training camp on 5th April, 2008. Twenty eight young people attended from Bewl Bridge, Dover, Kings School Canterbury, Maidstone Invicta, Royal Docks and Shoreham to gain more rowing experience and coaching.

Kent Schools Indoor Rowing Championships 2008
