Make your nomination for BBC Sports 'Unsung Hero' award

The BBC is inviting nominations for the nation's Sports Unsung Hero.

'Now in its sixth year, the award is given to a volunteer who has made a difference to their community through sport.

Fifteen local winners are chosen by each BBC English region as well as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and will be invited to attend the Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on 14 December.

Jackie Wardell - Itchen Imperial's junior co-ordinator and mentor

Jackie Wardell has been junior coordinator at Itchen Imperial Rowing Club for the last four years and alongside organising the junior coaching sessions, coaches, crews, boats, safety and welfare of the juniors, she has organised the junior regatta held at Itchen Imperial rowing club at the end of the coastal rowing season.

A message from Bob Board, Honorary Secretary of the West of England Amateur Rowing Association (WEARA).

'It is with great sorrow I have to report the very sad death of our President Mr Derek Rickard.

Derek died as a result of an incident on the River Plym on Friday morning. His upturned scull was first sighted by a member of the public and an air and sea search instigated with tragic consequences.

Rowers save the day for kitesurfer

A team of rowers saved the day after a kitesurfer became separated from his kite.

They retrieved £700-worth of kitesurfing equipment, which was lost by Pete Jennings in Portland Harbour.

The visiting American, 37, got into difficulty when his kite was blown away by strong winds.

The crew of Weymouth Rowing Club gig Sir Tristan responded to a Coastguard appeal to help retrieve the 12-metre surfing kite.

Relocation of traditional Solent Galleys

The Pat Sherwin Rowing Trust, based in Southsea, is wishing to relocate two of their 30ft fixed-seat, clinker-built, four-oared Solent Galley rowing boats. The Trustees are looking for a club or organisation to store, maintain, care for and use these traditional wooden boats.

Applications are welcome from people within Wessex who wish to undertake an education/training programme/coaching/officiating programme and can demonstrate they are involved either at club or regional level in the coaching, officiating or volunteering of rowing activities.

Southampton Head of the River Rowing Report from John Bailey:

'Lymington's Senior A crew took advantage of a rare steering mistake by Ryde A to win the coveted 'Head of the River' in 18:18 minutes. This event was part of the Hants & Dorset 2008 Season Primary held on Saturday 26th April, on the River Itchen.

Southampton Amateur Rowing Club launched the latest addition to their fleet of racing shells on Sunday 13th April at 11.30am from their Clubhouse at Hazel Road, Woolston.

During the winter months schools and clubs from across the Wessex rowing region have been training hard on the indoor rowing machines with many participants hoping to compete in one of the Region's indoor rowing competitions.
