Twickenham RC Sweeps European Honours

Not content with competing at Henley, Women's Henley and the National Championships, a hardcore element from Twickenham Rowing Club pushed themselves one stroke further to compete against some of the top crews in the world at the European Surf Boat Championships in Biarritz, France last weekend.

A host of French Olympic oarsmen and women will be joined by Tom Lucy, GB silver medallist, this weekend at the European Open Surfboat Championships in Biarritz, France.

Among the surf crews converging on La Grande Plage will be 'flat-water' rowers from clubs along the Thames and the Trent. Leander, Marlow, Molesey, Nottingham, Oxford Brookes and Twickenham rowing clubs are all represented.

UK Surf Rowing League Summer Series 2008

Report from the UK Surf Rowing League (UKSRL) Summer Series Round 3, held at Watergate Bay, Cornwall:

Crews were greeted with a 3 - 4ft choppy swell and an onshore wind and as one sweep said with a smile, 'this could be anybody's race today'. So it proved with race favourites Porthtowan Blue Bali being beaten into second place in the first two rounds, the alarm bells began ringing, only to have normal service resume in heat 5 and in the 'golden point' final.
