Scottish Amateur Rowing Association
The Scottish Amateur Rowing Association (SARA) is the governing body of rowing and sculling in Scotland - it promotes the safe participation in rowing and sculling at every level.
The international rowing lake at Strathclyde Park, Glasgow, is a regular host to the ARA's National Championships, Home International Regattas and in 2006, to the fourth Commonwealth Rowing Championships. In May 2008 the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) Regatta was also held here, attended by 600 crews from more than 40 universities across the UK.
Mike Haggerty of SARA writes: 'The clear highlight of 2007 was the successful hosting of the World Under-23 Championships at Strathclyde Park, yet another example of how the Scottish rowing community – aided and abetted by many friends from beyond the country - routinely hosts slick events that work for everybody, and delivers with smiles on faces and a ready willingness to go that extra step to help our guests.
School-based development work is continuing with much success, with projects now well-established in Aberdeen, Glasgow and elsewhere, including Inverness, and others set to come on-stream during the year.'
