Structure

General Structure

The ARA has around 23,000 individual members who range in age from 11 to over eighty. Individual members are generally linked to one of our 550 affiliated rowing clubs, which in turn are within one of the 24 geographical divisions which make up eleven ARA regions.

Each region has a regional rowing council and each division has a divisional representative who is voted for by the clubs and competitions in the area and represents them on Council, the governing committee of the sport.

Corporate Governance Structure

In addition to the divisional representatives and representatives from the Scottish ARA and Welsh ARA, Council is made up of;

  • four officers; the Chairman, Treasurer and two Deputy Chairmen
  • five appointed members; from Cambridge and Oxford universities, Leander, London and Thames clubs
  • six co-opted members selected for their experience in specific fields
  • six Chairmen of committees and commissions.
The Executive Committee is the Board of Directors of the ARA Ltd, elected by Council, and they meet at regular intervals seven times a year.

The committees who report to Council through their Chairman are;
  • The National Coaching Committee
  • The National Competition Committee
  • The National Development Committee
Commissions that report to Council through the above committees are;
  • National Junior Commission
  • National Veteran Commission
  • National Umpire Commission

The following advisory and sub-committees report to Council through the Executive Committee; Rules, Finance, Multi-Lane Umpires, Water Safety, Medical and National Championships. The ARA also has two Honorary advisory posts, Medical Officer, Dr R Budgett and Legal Adviser, R. Lester.

Coaching & Development Structure

The ARA's Coaching and Development teams support rowers and the programmes of the association which include engaging new participants through new partnerships and rowing for life through well-resourced clubs.

President

Sir Steve Redgrave CBE is the honorary president of the ARA and there are three life Vice Presidents - C.G.V. Davidge OBE, J.A. Veats, M. Brandon-Bravo OBE.
