Junior Officials

The Junior Officials programme was developed over 2 years through the hard work of volunteers within the Thames region, most notably Judith Packer and the regional umpires' commission, and was supported by the ARA's Coaching and Development Team.

The scheme provides a lasting legacy to rowing by introducing young people to the world of volunteering in a structured and positive manner. The Junior Officials Handbook also provides information that will be useful for race preparation.

The programme came about because of the enthusiasm of young volunteers to support the 2006 World Rowing Championships and the need to provide them with suitable training. Junior Officials had previously been involved in the 2005 Rowing World Cup and the Coupe de Jeunesse (Western European Junior Championships) where they performed a whole range of duties.
